Business Support

The Scottish Confucius Institute for Business & Communication has a number of activity streams focused on aspects of business and communication.  It works alongside various other organisations such as the China Britain Business Council and Scottish Enterprise / Scottish Development International and the Asia Scotland Institute to provide tailored support for people wanting to understand more about Chinese culture, language and business.  It can develop tailored services on request, and will signpost enquiries to other appropriate organisations for specific advice where appropriate.

Business insights

The Confucius Institute has a long-term strategic partnership with the Asia Scotland Institute, to collaboratively deliver it’s business insights programme.  Together the Institutes organise events with global leaders from across Asia, with the aim of stimulating curiosity and fostering an environment to promote the exchange of knowledge.

Tourism industry support programme

The Institute is currently running a dedicated activity programme focused on the tourism sector. It is a member of the Scottish Tourism Alliance, and the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group’s China-Ready Programme, and is supporting both organisations’ conferences this year. We are keen to help make the industry ‘China-Ready’ as the city launches a new direct air route to China in June 2018, and can support staff development for language training, cultural awareness, business etiquette etc.  We can also work with you to attract Chinese speaking staff, and also develop tailored research or insight for your business.

If you would like to have a conversation about how we can support your business development, please get in touch.

Internal institutional support (Heriot-Watt University)

As a pan-University Institute, we can complement existing links to China, and form an integral part of the University’s International and Public Engagement strategies.  We support academics, departments and support units in all global campuses with language training, student experience support, and cultural opportunities.  This includes opportunities to take part in overseas summer schools in China, and assistance with planning Chinese-related events. The Institute runs a range of workshops during the year, and advertises these via the University intranet. Departments and academics can tailor programmes and support activity with us, and we’d be delighted to support your needs.

Local community support

The Confucius Institutes have a long history of community support, enabling local Chinese communities to develop cultural activities and projects to share with others, and to those interested in Chinese culture to access relevant cultural activities and community links. The Institute is currently working with Edinburgh city’s Chinese community groups to support Chinese language school resource development.
