Asia’s Global Financial Centre – Hong Kong in the 21st Century

Our colleagues at the Asia Scotland Institute will host a panel from the HK Financial Services Development Council to discuss Hong Kong as a global financial centre, with perceptions of the city as a business centre from a panel of senior business leaders in the financial services sector. The panel members will talk about how they consider Hong Kong as a financial centre, with reference to key aspects of the competitiveness of the city as a global financial centre including current challenges to their operation in Hong Kong (e.g. cost, regulations, taxation, etc.), future development (e.g. key factors affecting Hong Kong’s role as the operating hub of choice), the impact of the Greater Bay Area on Hong Kong, and the direction of development in relation to ESG and FinTech in Hong Kong.

The panel members have enormous insight into Hong Kong and its role as an international financial centre.

Panellists:

Mr Andrew Weir – Global Chair, Asset Management and Real Estate, KPMG International; Regional Senior Partner and Vice Chairman, KPMG Advisory (China) Limited & Board Member FSDC. Andrew has over 30 years’ experience servicing listed companies, public bodies, investment funds and MNCs in Hong Kong, China, Asia and internationally.

Ms. Chen Ding – CEO, CSOP Asset Management Limited & Board Member FSDC. Ms Ding was also Assistant Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of China Southern Asset Management Co. Ltd. (“CSAM”) from 2003 to 2013. Ms Ding was named “CEO of the Year in Asia” in the 2013 Best of Best Awards held by Asia Asset Management.

Mr Jeremy Lam – Partner and Head of the Financial Services Practice, Deacons Law Firm & Board Member FSDC. Jeremy has over 25 years of experience advising international and local financial institutions in connection with the establishment and regulation of collective investment schemes. He also advises on a wide range of securities, licensing, compliance and regulatory issues relevant to the asset management industry.
