Autumn Term Classes – Lunch Hour Sessions

Why not put your lunch hour to good use and come along to one of our classes – we have lots to choose from and cater for abilities, from complete beginners to those with more experience. Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at Chinese Calligraphy or learn about how Business is conducted in China. Our new term starts on Monday 20th September and runs until 3 December 2021.

Chinese Beginners 1 (HSK Level 1 Part One)

The course is held twice a week. Students do not require any prior knowledge in Chinese as it aims to provide you with a basic knowledge of the Chinese economy, aspects of contemporary Chinese human relations and behaviour. The course will also provide a basic knowledge of the Chinese language commonly used in a business environment, students will also learn how to read simple business documents in Chinese. Students will be expected to have mastered by the end of the course, 70-80 commonly used Chinese characters and be able to use some very simple Chinese expressions. Chinese Beginners 1 and Chinese Beginners 2 courses will assist the students in preparing for the HSK 1 exam

Chinese Post Beginners 1 (HSK Level 2 Part One)

This course is designed for students who have already completed a Beginners Course or have studied Mandarin for at least 60 hours and mastered 150 characters, or hold an HSK 1 certificate. By the end of this course (Chinese Post-beginner 1), students will be expected to have mastered 60-70 new Chinese characters and know how to use slightly more complex Chinese expressions for daily life over a range of topics. The course takes place twice a week

Business Etiquette (Lunch Hour Session)

This course is delivered in English. It introduces the basic structure of the Chinese economy, the business climate in China, essential aspects of contemporary Chinese cultural relations and behaviour and major business etiquette. The course will be a useful guide for those interested in conducting business in/with China. The course will also enhance the students’ ability to communicate effectively with Chinese business people as well as Chinese people as a whole. Note: This course starts on 20th September but it is 9 week course with a non-teaching reading week (18th Oct-22nd Oct) and its last session falls on 16th November.

Chinese Calligraphy 1

This course begins with an introduction of Chinese art history and an explanation of how Chinese philosophy influences Chinese art. The course will then move to practical issues including common techniques that relate to using the Chinese soft brushes and ink control

Intermediate 1/HSK Level 3 Part One

The course is intended for students who have studied Chinese for about 60-70 hours and have mastered 300 characters. By the end of the course, students are expected to have mastered 150 commonly used words and related grammar patterns allowing them to understand simple reading materials in Chinese Characters. This course will assist students to prepare for the HSK level 3 exam
