GIFCon 2021: Beyond the Anglocentric Fantastic –28, 29, 30 April 2021

The Confucius Institute at Glasgow University and the Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic are holding their fourth annual GIFCon. This FREE online Glasgow International Fantasy Conference will run over 28, 29, 30 April 2021.

Chinese science-fiction and fantasy writer, Xia Jia, known for her award-winning short fiction stories, will deliver her keynote speech on the Wednesday morning.

The programme also features conversations by Chengcheng You: Re-animating the Demon Child: Contemporary Appropriation and Inversion of a Chinese Fantasy Classic, and Daniel Martin: The Ancient Magic of China’s Tomb Raiders: History, Modernity, and Nationalism in Chinese Fantasy Blockbusters.

This three-day event programme will cover one of the most vibrant literary genres of the last two centuries – and a major cultural phenomenon of our time.
